THE RACING TIMES GOES “ONE on ONE” WITH MIKEY FLYNN
(TRT) HOW BIG OF A DEAL IS IT YOU FOR YOU TO WIN ON SPRING SIZZLER WEEKEND?
Mikey Flynn “Winning on Spring Sizzler weekend would mean everything for me and my team. Sizzler weekend is like the Daytona 500 for our style of racing. There is nothing like starting your year off on the right foot”
(TRY) JUST HOW COMPETITIVE IS IT RACING AT STAFFORD?
Mikey Flynn “Stafford is probably if not the best short track racing in the country right now. Each Division is packed with cars that can win and deep fields full of talented drivers. The SK Division has always been known as one of the toughest divisions across the country in modified racing”
(TRT) WHO IS MIKEY THE DRIVER? THE PERSON?
Mikey Flynn “As a driver, I like to think of myself as patiently aggressive. I always will run my race, and run people as clean as I can, however nerf bars and bumpers are put on race cars for a reason”.
As a person, you can find me studying Recreation and Sport Management at Coastal Carolina University located in Conway, SC about 15–20 min from downtown Myrtle Beach. During the race season, there are many flights taken between Myrtle Beach and Hartford. You can also find me working on our family farm in Hampden, MA, and playing with my St. Bernard puppy “Smokey” and his sister Rosie.
(TRT) IF YOU NEED TO MAKE A PASS, WHERE ON THE TRACK DO YOU LOOK FOR?
Mikey Flynn “I feel like the best place to pass at Stafford is in turn three. If you can get a good run out of two and dive down into turn three there is no better feeling than that.
(TRT) DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL LAP AROUND STAFFORD?
Mikey Flynn “There are a couple of different ways to get around Stafford. With the track having two completely different corners it can be challenging to get a grip on the track. In turn one I usually try to use the apron as much as I can getting into the corner letting the car push up just a little bit in the center to give myself a good run off the corner down the backstretch. Getting into turn three you want to drive it in as much as you can as low as you can trying to get back on the gas as early as possible. This will give you good drive off the corner and down the front straight”.
(TRT) WHATS YOUR BEST STAFFORD RACING STORY?
Mikey Flynn “ have so many, but off the top of my head from last year it would probably have to be the Wesson/Kopcik incident and getting to see that craziness first hand. (Look up video on YouTube)”
(TRT) WHAT TRACK IN THE U.S. WOULD YOU LIKE RACING YOUR MODIFIED AT?
Mikey Flynn “I would someday love to be able to bring my modified to the high banks of Bristol. I can only imagine how fast it must feel to go around that track.”
(TRT) ARE YOU PLANNING ON RUNNING ON THE TOUR OR TRI-TRACK SERIES?
Mikey Flynn “We are planning to run a lot of open shows including the tri-track series. No Whelen Tour this year though”
(TRT)WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO THANK?
Mikey Flynn “There are so many people that help out with this race team. First and foremost I have to thank my family. My Mom and Dad have been part of this since the start and none of this would be possible without them. I also have to thank my Uncle Chris who puts countless hours into the cars on a weekly basis. My crew chief Stash Butova for giving us a great setup as well. Pettit Racing Engines and Spafco Race Cars have also been a huge part of my racing career and I wouldn’t be able to do this without them. I would also like to thank my sponsors Place Motors, Ballyheigue Farm, Hub International, Tech Titanz LLC and everyone else who helps us out”.
(TRT) APPLE OR ANDROID?
