O’Reilly Auto Parts Four Hours of Mid-Ohio launches 64th season of racing at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course
Event features IMSA sports car racing headlined by Michelin Pilot Challenge endurance race on Sunday
LEXINGTON, Ohio (June 6, 2025) – The 64th season of racing begins today at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with thrilling International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) sports car competition at the O’Reilly Auto Parts Four Hours of Mid-Ohio (June 6-8, 2025). The three-day event is headlined by a four-hour IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge endurance race plus on track action from three other series.
In total, seven races will take the green flag this weekend as the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge, Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin and USF Juniors Presented by Continental Tire will each compete in a pair of races on the legendary 2.258-mile, 13-turn road course. The headlining four-hour Michelin Pilot Challenge endurance race on Sunday at Noon ET is the second of only two four-hour competitions on the series’ 2025 slate.
One week in advance of Father’s Day, multiple father-son and father-daughter teams are part of the 38-car field competing in the four-hour Michelin Pilot Challenge race on Sunday afternoon. One of these duos is the Hebron, Ohio-based Pegram Racing team consisting of Larry Pegram and his daughter Riley Pegram racing in the Touring Car (TCR) class. Larry, best known for a long, successful career as a motorcycle road racer with multiple professional Superbike wins, acknowledges both the challenges and satisfaction his partnership with his daughter brings.
“For me, it’s harder to watch (Riley race), but there’s also so much reward for me to watch the progression that I’ve been able to see of her just in the last year with how much quicker she’s going,” Larry said. “It won’t be long and she’ll be faster than me in the car, so it’s pretty rewarding for me to see how well she’s doing.”
“We kind of have similar driving styles I would say, because he’s kind of been my coach all the way up through everything,” said Riley. “Car setup, we usually like pretty similar. It’s a little bit more of an advantage in that way. I don’t think it’s a disadvantage.”
A number of other local racers will also take the track this weekend across multiple different series including former IndyCar driver and Stockdale, Ohio-native Zach Veach (Czabok-Simpson Motorsport) and Patrick Gallagher from Thornville, Ohio (Turner Motorsport) in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Grand Sport (GS) class. Additionally, Chad Gilsinger (Marysville, Ohio) and Tyler Chambers (Columbus, Ohio) will compete in TCR. Woody Heimann (Findlay, Ohio) will race in Mazda MX-5 Cup, and Maddie Colleran (Hunting Valley, Ohio) is an open-wheel entry in the USF Juniors series.
“Growing up in Ohio and watching my dad race SCCA at Mid-Ohio for my entire childhood, it’s super special to be back here with IMSA,” Gallagher, who is also a driving instructor at The Mid-Ohio School, said. “I’ll have a lot of friends and family up for the race, so that’s always fun for them to come see what I do.”
