“I think Ryan [Charland] tried taking J.R.’s line away [on the restart],” Haas said after the race. “J.R. [Heffner] got underneath him and…scrubbed a ton of speed. I got underneath him going into [turn] 3 and I thought Charland was going to come back, but he buzzed his tires and it was easy from there.”
Haas won by 2.906 seconds over John Virgilio. Charland was third, then J.R. Heffner and Eddie Marshall. The victory gives Haas the points lead by nine points over Bachetti.
Charland started from the pole and led early. Heffner started fifth and quickly climbed up to second. He challenged Charland for the lead, but was unable to get past.
Haas started in 11th and made moves up early to get up to sixth. Many of the drivers had significant difficulty passing since the track was watered prior to the race in order to cut down on dust. Haas was more or less an exception to the rule.
The race ended up settling into a four-car duel for the lead between Charland, Heffner, Marc Johnson and Haas). Charland was strong and held off all comers.
With eight laps to go, Kyle Armstrong slowed to bring out the race’s only yellow. Haas was third at the time. On the restart, Haas dove to the inside of Heffner in turn 1. Heffner went up the track and Haas got a good run exiting turn 2. That put him three-wide with Heffner and Charland. A dive into turn 3 and a slide job put Haas into the lead.
Virgilio got into second a lap later, but Haas was able to pull away in the final seven laps to take the win. Over the past two weeks, Haas has earned $13,100 in his Modified.
In the Small Block Modifieds, Michael Sabia started on pole and ran strong early on. Jeff Watson moved up to second in the opening laps and gave chase.
Andy Bachetti started 10th and had shown earlier in the evening that he had speed. However, he chose to conserve his stuff and hang back a little bit.
The final third of the race was when he came to life. He moved up to third, then ran down Watson for second. With five laps to go, he caught Sabia for the lead.
After a short battle, Bachetti took over the lead and drove away to his sixth Small Block win of the year. Bachetti won by 3.15 seconds over Sabia. Watson was third, then Ryan Larkin and Joey Coppola.
The Sportsman feature started off with trouble. The original start had a crash in turn 2 involving Tim Hartman Jr., Keith Johannessen, Nick Giardini and others. However, that paled as compared to what happened shortly afterwards.
The restart was called off due to the running order being wrong, but a stack up resulted that saw Karl Barnes end up on his roof. Mike Arnold was forced to retire due to this crash, but Barnes returned to the race.
Peter Lorenzo got the lead early on and ran well. However, despite being in the first incident, Hartman’s car was still on pace. He was able to pass those forced to pit and drive up to the lead in only a few laps.
From there, Hartman pulled away to take his 12th straight Sportsman win and the 10th in a row to start the year. Sabia was second, 3.777 seconds behind. Cody Bleau was third, then Giardini and Anthony Maxon.
Limited Sportsman saw Owen Lewis take the lead away from pole sitter Harold Robitaille on lap 2. From there, he was able to hold on to earn his first-ever victory at Lebanon Valley.
Lewis won by 2.158 seconds over Colby Kokosa. John Santolin was third, then Dylan Holmes and Mike Bosco.
Pro Stock saw Rick Duzlak start from the pole in his No. 29. Early on, Shawn Perez Jr. was able to drive up and snatch the lead away from Duzlak.
For the remainder of the 20-lap feature, Duzlak, Tom Dean and Zach Sorrentino tried their darndest, but they could not get past the second-generation racer. After 20 laps of racing, Perez Jr. had his first career victory.
Perez Jr. won by .241 seconds over Dean. Sorrentino was third, then Duzlak and Shawn Perez.
In the Super Street Stocks, Dave Streibel Jr. took the lead on lap 5 and held on for his fifth win of the year.
