ADVANCE AUTO PARTS & MILITARY NIGHT AT SEEKONK SPEEDWAY ON MAY 17
This Saturday night, May 17, Seekonk Speedway returns to NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series racing with a massive night of competition. This week is Advance Auto Parts night at the races, Military Night, and also includes two Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown Series races – for the Helger’s Sportsman and Pro Stocks.
Racing begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening.
During the week, on Thursday night, May 15, Seekonk Speedway will celebrate the Advance night at the races early at Advance Auto Parts at 150 Highland Avenue in Seekonk from 5-7 p.m. Fans can come by and meet Pro Stock standout Vinnie Arrenegado, Late Model rising star Andrew Gomes, Sport Truck driver Jake Vanada and Bandolero and Legends Cars rising star Ayla Martin. On Friday night, Fast Friday practice takes place from 5-8 p.m., with admission into the pits only.
When Saturday comes around, racing will be hot and heavy on the track.
The Pro Stocks will hit the third-mile for race three of the season, set for the extra-distance, with 60 laps. The first two events have proven drastically different, with Vinnie Arrenegado and Jacob “Rowdy” Burns coming out on top as feature winners. Entering week three, some names to watch looking for their first win of the year include David Darling, Mike Brightman and defending champion Dylan Estrella. Will Colbey Fournier come back from his tough start to the season with a strong run? Time will tell. It’s the first of three in the Everett’s Auto Parts Triple Crown Series and there will be many challenges for the top spot come the end.
The Helger’s Sportsman are coming off another wild 25-lap race last week that saw many different contenders up front. In the end, it was much of the same veteran presence up front – with Colby Lambert holding off Adam Pettey and Scott Serydynski Jr. for the victory. Those three and fourth-place finisher last week, Jeremy Lambert, have been top-five in both events this season. As the Sportsman get set for 35 laps this week, it will likely come down to some of these four for the victory in the first race of the Triple Crown. But, can someone like Nick Wood, Jimmy “Pepe” Silvia or Doug Benoit make their presence felt?
In the Sport Trucks, the first two weeks have proven that Mike Cavallaro is going to be one to beat. He won on opening day and followed it up with another podium in week two, finishing third. Rising competitor Ethan Heilborn scored the week two win, his first career. While those
two will want to win again, they will have to contend with defending champion Rick Martin, Tim Bolger Jr., Jake Vanada and many others in Saturday’s 25-lap feature.
The Late Model field was chasing Jacob Burns in week two. After he missed the first race of the season, Burns became the first driver in 58 years to win two NASCAR Saturday races in the same night. He chased through the pack to pass Charlie Rose on the outside lane in the Late
Models to win. Rose, who had a mechanical failure in week one while leading, rebounded for second in week two. He enters this Saturday’s 30-lap feature hungry for more. After two weeks in the championship standings, Chase Belcher quietly sits up top after strong runs, with rising star Andrew Gomes not far behind. Defending champion Luke LeBrun is third, with Josh Hedges and Mark Jenison fourth and fifth. Will one of these drivers win this week?
