Opening Weekend Now One Memorable Saturday, May 4 AT THUNDERROAD

Barre, VT — With the increasingly poor forecast calling for rain and cold temperatures in Barre on Sunday, Thunder Road and American-Canadian Tour officials have moved the Community Bank, N.A. program to Saturday, May 4 with racing action set to start at 5:30pm. Originally scheduled for Sunday, the forecasted cold temperatures would hamper any track drying efforts with rain said to roll into the area any time after 10:00am pushing officials to move the program to Saturday’s full slate of events.

Saturday, May 4 will now be an action-packed, full day of racing excitement at Thunder Road starting at 9:00am with the annual Car Show at the racetrack until 12:00-noon. The Kenley Dean Extravaganza, a Celebration of Life for Ken Squier will begin promptly at 12:00-noon with practice for all divisions slated to begin at 2:30pm.

Following the Kenley Dean extravaganza, both the grandstands and pit area will be cleared of spectators. General admission tickets will go on sale starting at 2:00pm and the grandstand gates will reopen at 2:30pm for spectators. Racing action will begin at 5:30pm with American-Canadian Tour qualifying heat races to start the show. With the schedule change, the annual Class Day activities have been moved to Memorial Day weekend.

“After searching through for a chance of sun, it became clear that Sunday’s cold temperatures would take away any chance for drying the track when the rains show up,” said Thunder Road managing partner Cris Michaud. “Moving the program to Saturday made the most sense for both our traveling teams and locals and we look forward to a fantastic opening day at The Road!”
