WALL STADIUM RESULTS AUG 9

MCCARTHY WINS WILD BATTLE FOR WALL STADIUM MODFIED WIN

WALL, NJ ~ Eddie McCarthy eventually took down the win in the 40-lap Modified stock car race at Wall Stadium Speedway Saturday night after battling with Red Bank’s Tommy Martino, Jr. in the closing laps and then waiting out an official decision. Upon further review officials determined that the contact between the two was a result of hard racing and McCarthy and Martino were awarded first and second.

Tyler Truex of Mayetta was the early leader of the test and fought off Derek Hopkinson of Milltown and Martino in the early going. Martino was finally able to racing into the lead on lap 26 as McCarthy powered into second. The duo then battled side-by-side with sparks flying almost constantly. McCarthy inched into the top spot and crossed the finish line first with Martino, Hopkinson, Truex and Andrew Krause completing the top five.

“I really didn’t think it was all that bad,” McCarthy said after the race before the large grandstand crowd. “It was just hard racing at Wall Stadium. This is an extremely fast and tight track and the racing is very hard here. I have to thank my family and crew for giving me a fast car.”

In the headlining Factory Stock Twin 20 lap main events, Howell’s Rob Anderton led a non-stop dash all the way to take the win. Manchester’s Scott Riggleman, Shanon Mongeau of Island Heights, Howell’s Johnny Carpenter and Jared Okerson were second through fifth.

In the nightcap, 16 year old racer Alex Rogers of Beachwood raced to his first career feature race victory. The third generation driver was chased by a top five that included Howell’s Brian Osborn, Mongeau, Carpenter and Riggleman.

Neil Rutt III of Colts Neck grabbed his first win of the year in the 25-lapper for the Sportsman racers after being chased most of the way by Hazlet’s Chris Silvestri. In a race that was slowed by just one yellow, Lavallette’s Quinn Trimmer was third and Steve Whitt and Kevin Davison, both of Howell, were fourth and fifth.

Wall’s TJ Graves took the lead with five laps remaining to win the 25-lapper for the Fast 4 cars. Early leader Joe Pressey crossed the finish line second but failed post race inspection. That moved Ian and Doug Ashford, Kevin Carr and Eric Mancini into second through fifth spots.

Mike Alcaro of West Milford won his fifth Legend Cars 25-lapper of the season whicis his 55th career win here. Justin Emmons, Joe Parker, Jeff Stephens and Chris Gall were second through fifth.
