Arute, Gray, Anglace, Plemons, & Waterman Score May 15th Weekly Racing Feature Wins at Stafford Speedway
(Stafford Springs, CT)—Stafford Speedway returned to weekly racing action on Friday, May 15th. Feature winners on the night included David Arute in the SK Modifiedยฎ feature, Adam Gray for the second consecutive week in the Late Model feature, Nick Anglace in the SK Light feature, Aaron Plemons in the Street Stock feature, and Ryan Waterman in the Street Stock feature.
In the 40-lap SK Modifiedยฎ feature, Wesley Prucker led the field to the green flag and he set the early pace with David Arute quickly taking second. Arute took the lead from Prucker on lap-3 with Tyler Chapman taking second, Alexander Pearl third, Troy Talman fourth, and Marcello Rufrano fifth. Prucker was slowly losing positions in the outside lane as he slid all the way back to 12th place behind Keith Rocco. With 10 laps complete Arute was still in command with Chapman and Pearl behind him. Rufrano was now fourth with Todd Owen up to fifth. Michael Christopher, Jr. was sixth followed by Dylan Izzo, Mikey Flynn, Jon Puleo, and Rocco.
At the halfway point Arute was still in the lead and he had pulled away from Chapman in second. Rufrano was still third with Owen and Christopher making up the top-5. Puleo was sixth with Izzo, Rocco, Flynn, and Anthony Flannery behind him. Christopher went by Owen to take fourth place on lap-24 while Rufrano nearly took second from Chapman. Rufrano would take second from Chapman on lap-26 and Christopher got by him for third on lap-27. Puleo was now fifth behind Arute, Rufrano, Christopher, and Chapman with 10 laps to go.
With 5 laps to go Arute was all by himself out front with Christopher, Rufrano, Chapman, and Puleo still giving chase. Arute led the field to the checkered flag to pick up his first win of the 2026 season with a dominating drive. Christopher finished second with Rufrano, Chapman, and Puleo rounding out the top-5.
In the 30-lap Late Model feature, Josh Wood took the lead at the green flag with Michael Bennett in hot pursuit from second place. Paul Varricchio, Jr. was third in the early laps with Darrell Keane fourth and Adam Gray fifth. The caution came out with 4 laps complete for Chris Buffone, who backed into the turn 1 wall with Adon Burrell also getting into the wall.
Wood resumed his place at the front of the pack on the restart with Varricchio taking second. Gray took third with Keane taking fourth on lap-7 to drop Bennett back to fifth place. Kevin Gambacorta took fifth from Bennett on lap-8 while Wood continued to lead Varricchio and Gray.
With 15 laps complete it was still Wood leading Varricchio and Gray. Keane and Gambacorta were still holding fourth and fifth with Chris Meyer, Bennett, Wayne Coury, Jr., Bobby Stirk, III, and Damian Palardy making up the top-10. Stirk came to a stop against the turn 4 wall to bring the caution flag back out with 20 laps complete.
Gray made a move to the inside of Wood on the restart to take over the race lead. Gambacorta followed him by Wood one lap later to move into second. Bennett was back up to fourth with Coury fifth and Meyer sixth. Bennett got by Wood on lap-25 to move into third while Gambacorta was still trying to catch Gray in the fight for the lead.
Gambacorta couldn’t get close enough to Gray to make a bid for the lead as Gray took down his second consecutive Late Model feature win of the 2026 season. Bennett finished third with Wood and Coury rounding out the top-5.
In the 20-lap SK Light feature, the cars of Joey Ferrigno, Chad Jones, and Glenn Bartkowski all got into the turn 1 wall while Amanda West and Travis Downey spun to the infield to bring the caution flag out before a lap could be completed.
Casey Vogt took the lead on the restart with Bob Charland holding second. Jason Finkbein was third behind Charland with Cassandra Cole racing wheel to wheel with Daltin McCarthy for fourth place. Nick Anglace was on the move in the early laps, taking to the outside lane to move into third behind Vogt and Charland on lap-4. Anglace took second from Charland on lap-5 and he took the lead from Vogt on lap-6. The caution flew with 6 laps complete for Connor Christmas, who came to a stop against the turn 3 wall. Under the caution, last week’s SK Light feature winner Robert Bloxsom, III was pushed to pit road by a safety vehicle which prematurely ended his race.
Anglace took the lead back under green with Vogt, Chris Matthews, Finkbein, and the side by side duo of Peter Bennett and Tyler Barry all lined up behind him. Barry won the duel with Bennett to take fifth on lap-12 while Anglace was slowly stretching out his advantage over Matthews, who took second from Vogt on lap-12. Ava Lombardo spun in turn 4 to bring the caution flag back out with 12 laps complete.
Matthews tried to run with Anglace in the outside lane but as they came around to complete lap-13 Anglace got clear into the lead. Sami Anderson got into the turn 3 wall to bring the caution flag back out with 14 laps complete.
Paul Arcari spun on the restart coming to the green flag to bring the yellow flag right back out. On the next restart Matthews was able to get around Anglace on the high side and he took the lead. Anglace came right back the following lap to the inside of Matthews where they touched in turns 1+2 with the two cars racing wheel to wheel down the backstretch and into turn 3. They were still wheel to wheel with 3 laps to go with Bennett right behind them in third, Finkbein in fourth, and Barry in fifth. Anglace worked his way back by Matthews on lap-19 with a move in turns 1+2. Ben Morrison spun coming out of turn 4 to bring the caution out and set up a green white checkered finish.
Anglace and Matthews went wheel to wheel again for the lead with Anglace holding the lead by a nose as they took the white flag. Matthews made one final bid coming out of turn 4 coming to the checkered flag but he came up a half car length short as Anglace took down his second win of the 2026 season. Finkbein finished third with Bennett and Bryan Narducci rounding out the top-5.
In the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature, RJ Surdell took the early lead at the green flag with Kyle Theriault, Adrien Paradis, III, Norm Root, III and Gary Patnode all lined up behind him. Patnode made a move to the inside of Root for third but wasn’t able to make the pass before the caution flew with 5 laps complete for a spin in turns 1+2 by Jason Lafayette.
Surdell and Theriault went door to door for the lead with Theriault taking the lead by a nose on lap-7. Aaron Plemons streaked past both Surdell and Theriault to take over the lead on lap-8 with Surdell in second. Theriault slid back to fifth place as Root was third and Jeremy Lavoie was fourth. Dana Wray spun in turn 2 to bring the caution flag back out with 9 laps complete.
Plemons streaked back into the lead on the restart with Root taking second. Lavoie was third with Theriault fourth and Duane Provost fifth. Surdell was stuck in the outside lane and was slowly losing positions lap after lap. He slid all the way back to tenth place before he spun in turn 4 to bring the caution flag out with 13 laps complete.
Plemons again took the lead back under green with Lavoie getting around Root to move into second. Root was third with Theriault fourth and Matt Clement took fifth on lap-16 as he got by Provost. Plemons slowly pulled away from Lavoie and scored his first win of the 2026 season. Lavoie finished second with Root, Theriault, and Lafayette rounding out the top-5.
In the 20-lap Street Stock feature, Marvin Minkler, who started the race on pole, spun in turn 2 at the drop of the green flag. The field completed one lap before the caution flew for Minkler, whose car was stalled out in turn 2.
Bill Cote took the lead on the lap-2 restart with Jason Raymond and PJ Evans going door to door for second. Ryan Waterman was fourth in line with Kolton Gambacorta fifth. Raymond took second on lap-3 while Waterman went by Evans to take third place. Gambacorta got by Evans on lap-4 to move into fourth and drop Evans back to fifth, where he was now door to door with Brent Gleason fighting for fifth place.
Raymond got loose coming out of turn 4 on lap-6 while trying to take the lead from Cote and he fell back to sixth behind Cote, Waterman, Gambacorta, Brandon Warren, and Gleason. Raymond quickly recovered from his near spin and went back by Gleason and Gambacorta to move back up to fourth while Warren had moved up to third place behind Cote and Waterman.
Waterman streaked into the lead on lap-11 with Warren taking second. Raymond followed the lead duo by Cote to move into third before the caution flag came back out with 11 laps complete for Cote, who spun in turn 2.
Raymond nearly went 3-wide with Waterman and Warren for the lead before settling back into third place behind them. Gleason was fourth with Evans holding fifth. Roger Mahieu did a quick spin on lap-12 but was able to keep moving and the race stayed green. The caution flag flew with 17 laps complete for Gambacorta and Charles Beal, who both went around in turn 4.
Waterman took the lead back under green with Warren sliding into second just in front of Raymond. Evans was fourth with Cote in fifth and Gleason sixth. Warren was glued to Waterman but he couldn’t find a way around as Waterman took down his second win in three races this season. Raymond finished third with Evans and Cote rounding out the top-5.
