SEEKONK, Mass. — Due to impending weather expected to hit the Seekonk area on Sunday, Seekonk Speedway announced today that the start time for NASCAR Opening Day has been moved up to 12PM for Sunday, May 5.
Qualifying heat races will hit the track promptly to start the day, followed by feature racing. The Pro Stocks, Late Models, Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman and Chaz Auto Body Sport Trucks will all open their 2024 season on Sunday.
The pit area will open at 8AM for competitors and practice will begin at 10AM. The grandstands will open at 10:30AM for advanced ticket holders and 11 am for day of ticket sales.
“Seekonk Speedway is committed to getting Opening Day in for both our dedicated competitors and race fans after a long winter,” David Alburn, Competition Director, said. “We know everyone has been eager to see some racing at the Action Track of the East.”

Seekonk Speedway will open the 2024 season this Saturday and Sunday, May 4-5, with two days of exciting events at the Action Track of the East.
Saturday, the annual Classic Car Show returns in the track front parking lot, showcasing tons of different cars, and the annual Burnout Drags at 1 p.m. Saturday also includes the final tune-up for NASCAR divisions from 12-4 p.m. before Sunday’s season-opener.
Sunday, at 12 p.m., the NASCAR divisions hit the track for the first time this season for short-track racing. The Pro Stocks, Late Models, Sportsman and Sport Trucks will all open their quest towards the season-long championship battle that will end in September.
Race fans can purchase tickets for Sunday’s NASCAR event online today at SeekonkSpeedway.com, which will allow them to skip the line on race day. Tickets for Saturday for fans are free – including the Burnout Drags on the track at 1 p.m. and NASCAR practice viewing in the grandstands. The fee for each car looking to enter the show is $10 per car and judging opens at 10 a.m.
“It’s been a long offseason but we’re happy to swing the gates open and get 2024 underway this weekend,” Ed St. Germain, Director of Business Development for Seekonk Speedway, said. “Between Saturday and Sunday, race fans will get a little bit of everything this weekend at the Action Track of the East. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone pack the stands.”
On the NASCAR side, Sunday includes the pits opening at 8 a.m., while the grandstands open at 10:30 am. The first competition of the season will include Pro Stock time trials at 11 a.m. and the green flag for heat races at 12 p.m.
The defending two-time Pro Stock champion Mark Jenison leads the charge into the opening 40-lap race of the season, closely followed by names like Bobby Pelland III, defending Late Model champion Vinnie Arrenegado, who is moving up to Pro Stocks, and Colbey Fournier. Look out for Mike Brightman, defending Rookie of the Year Mike Rotondo, and others.
The Late Model season begins with Arrenegado doing double-duty, looking to win the opening 30-lap event. He will be joined by multiple-time 2023 winner Jacob “Rowdy” Burns, Jenison, Chase Belcher, Richie Murray and many more. The other competitor doing double-duty to kick-off the season will be Bobby Pelland III, also competing in the Late Models.
Defending Helger’s South Coast Power Equipment Sportsman champion Steve Axon looks to open the Sportsman season in Victory Lane. He will be racing against the most consistent driver from 2023, Adam Pettey, Colby Lambert, Tyler Almeida, Jimmy “Pepe” Silvia, Doug Benoit, Josh Hedges and others.
Seven-time Seekonk Speedway champion Rick Martin will open the Chaz Auto Body Sport Truck season in their 25-lap race looking to pounce. Look out for Jake Vanada, Darryl Church, Amy Arsenault, Brittany Campbell, Mike Duarte, Mike Cavallaro, DJ Thibeault and others in their main event.
Saturday’s schedule includes gates opening for the car show at 8 a.m., with the cost $10 per car who wish to enter, but all others are free. Judging will begin for awards at 10 a.m. and cars will need to be parked by 11 a.m. NASCAR pits open at 9 a.m. and practice on the track will roll from 12-4 p.m. The Burnout Drags will commence at 1 p.m. on track. Entertainment will be provided by DJ Cruisin Bruce, while the track concessions will be open for food and beverage.
Sunday, pits open at 8 a.m. and practice begins at 10 a.m. The grandstands will open at 10:30 a.m., with Pro Stock time trials at 11 a.m., while heat races begin at 12 p.m. The Sport Trucks will be the first feature for 25 laps, while the Late Models will run 30, Sportsman 25 and Pro Stocks 40.
