YANKOWSKI BECOMES FIRST REPEAT STSS MOD WINNER OF 2026 AT MIDDLEFORD

First to Repeat: Alex Yankowski Drives from Ninth to Middleford Speedway STSS Modified Victory

SEAFORD, DE – First to repeat.

Alex Yankowski became the first Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco multi-time Modified winner of 2026 on Tuesday night at Middleford Speedway.

The series debuted at the Delaware quarter-mile oval with the Clash at the Quarter-Mile Colosseum presented by Matt the Carpet Guy. Middleford is now the 51^st venue to host a Modified event and marked the return to Delaware for the first time since 2024.

The speedway was jammed to capacity with fans being part of the inaugural event.

Yankowski earned $5,000 for his third career STSS Modified victory. The Covington Township, Pa., driver previously won at Lebanon Valley Speedway in West Lebanon, N.Y., this season on May 21.

The event served as Round No. 5 of the NJ Quality Drywall South Region.

“Hats off to all these race fans here in Delaware,” Yankowski said. “These guys (the Middleford management team) are trying to make a go of it.  The more tracks we can get on the series, the better.”

Yankowski picked the worst available position – ninth – in the Beyea Custom Headers Redraw but was not to be deterred.

He inherited the lead after 19 laps around the Sussex County venue when race-long leader Ryan Krachun – who started from the pole – relinquished the top spot with a flat left-rear tire on the Daniel Sommeling No. 51.

“I think Ryan was going to be really tough there, so that’s unfortunate for him,” Yankowski said.

Once in command, Yankowski’s Millman’s NAPA Auto Parts No. 84Y was never seriously challenged, surviving several restarts including a final yellow inside the final five laps.

“It’s pretty cool to give Tim and Debbie (Millman) bragging rights here in Delaware,” Yankowski said of his First State-based team owners.

Middletown, N.Y.’s Danny Creeden – a short-track specialist – chased Yankowski across the line with a $3,000 runner-up finish.

Delaware standout Jordan Watson roared through the field after a spin on lap three placed him at the tail of the field. Watson, of nearby Milford, cleared Michael Maresca on the final lap to complete the podium.

Maresca, of Baldwinsville, N.Y., finished fourth after starting 10^th and Louden Reimert of Oley, Pa., completed the front five. He started eighth.

Finishing sixth through 10^th, respectively, were Danny Bouc of Pipersville, Pa., who started 12^th; Dillon Steuer of Bohemia, N.Y.; 15^th-starter Ryan Godown of Ringoes, N.J.; Paul Mancini of New Gretna, N.J., who started last and recovered from a flat tire; and Krachun, of Neshanic Station, N.J., after leading the opening 18 laps.

Creeden was the ATL Fuel Cells Hot Lap Hero with a circuit of 14.526 seconds.

Heat winners were Watson, Yankowski and Krachun.

Milford, Del.’s Jaxon Hill won the first STSS Sportsman event of his career in the accompanying 25-lap event for the Belmont’s Garage South Region. Hill pocketed $1,500 for his efforts.

Hill took over the lead on the fourth circuit and paced the remaining 21 laps in a rough-and-tumble affair.

He became the 66^th different STSS Sportsman in 134 events since the series’ inception.

Robbie Emory of Milton, Del., settled for second after starting from the pole. Johnny Bangs of Hamilton, N.J., finished third, followed by Matt Peck of Gibbstown, N.J., up from 14^th and Jimmy Leiby of Gilbertsville, Pa., who started 16^th.

Adam White was the JLR Technologies Hot Lap Hero at 15.450 seconds.

Heat winners were Zac Weller, Hill and Joe Toth. Steve Kemery and Matt Peck split the consolations. Jesse Hirthler won the Last Chance B-Main and opted to forego the $200 winner’s share, starting last in the feature.

The STSS returns to competition on Thursday, Sept. 3 at N.Y.’s Afton Motorsports Park featuring the HYTORC of New York North Region Modifieds (50 laps, $5,050 to win) and Madsen Overhead Doors Inc. North Region Sportsman (25 laps, $1,500 to win).
